Spotify API Changes February 2026

Spotify has published a blogpost outlining changes to the API.

Will there be an update to this library for the changes?

Mh, re-reading the blog post, these changes only apply for new apps (11. Feb) and existing development apps (9. March). I'm guessing existing production apps will be able to continue using all endpoints? Not sure how we should reflect that in the library.

My app for example forces user to bring their own client id and secret because I never got extended quota (require now 250k MAU and company verification) so all my users (mainly Twitch Streamers) are in Development Mode.

There are also deprecation of endpoints and actual changes to endpoints like Playlists where Tracks is now Item[] etc.

The difference between production and development apps is that you can have more users and some lifted limitations. It's a 2 class system now.

The app creation was disabled from Christmas until today, supposedly because of Anna's Archive scrape.

For the time being I wrote my own small httpclient to handle the changes and for the rest I still use the your lib.

So the API will also return different responses based on the type of the app now...ugh...

1. If you are a new development app/prod app, you will get items in a playlist response
2. If you are a old prod app, you will get tracks in a playlist response

I think we will either have to support this via generics (huge refactor) or just have both fields and all removed endpoints present (easy way).

This is a really bad move from Spotify, developers are also voicing their opinions on the forum but who are small indie devs compared to a mega corp.
