You had mentioned that you were having some LSP issues with our editable installs, can you give some more information about that?

Yep see here if I download the git repo and then install with pip install -e . I don't get LSP features. If I reinstall with the flag I mentioned before then I do.

Keeping setuptools as the build system there's sadly no way to configure it to automatically make these LSP files for editable installs. The LSP files are generated for regular non editable installs.

Hatchling doesn't support the extension modules you mentioned potentially wanting to use and so I think this doesn't yet have a good solution for what is a somewhat niche issue.

I was able to reproduce your issue. I think the fix you've mentioned, using the --config-settings editable_mode=compat is the only option for now.

The "Enable Editable Installs" setting in Pylance for Python 3.13 doesn't help. I think it is going to be a slightly more involved fix because of the extension library. I don't currently understand what is needed to properly fix this.

I'm going to leave this open because I do think this is something we should support, but I'm going to move on to other issues for now because there is a workaround. Thanks for raising the issue.
