How to get notified when the user clicks one of the signin buttons?

I think I am missing something very simple here. I would like to find a way to get notified when the user clicks a button to try to sign in. In my case I need to keep track of this to understand that a user is proceeding with a signup.

I saw this issue firebase/firebaseui-web#288 on firebaseui-web that maybe there is a callback uiChanged that could be used, but it doesn't look exposed.

I also tried using an ElementRef to find the native button elements, but failed there because they get dynamically added after initialization and I can't determine the right place to jack into them and add event handlers.

Does anyone have an idea on this?
