Get `driver_type` from elsewhere in Celery tasks

Currently, we're getting the driver type (e.g. redis) in a Celery task by opening a new connection. This is not ideal. Is there a way to get this information from elsewhere, without having to open a new connection? If not, can it at least be cached?
