☁️ Issue 2 — Setup Github Edu Pack #2

Description

🎯 Goal

Ensure all contributors have access to required cloud resources so that future backend features — especially Azure Blob Storage testing — can work smoothly.

This step is essential because Azure Student benefits require GitHub Education verification, which itself takes up to 48 hours, so contributors must complete this early.

📝 Task Description

You must sign up for two services:

1. Apply for GitHub Education Pack

GitHub Education gives you access to Azure for Students and other developer tools.

Important Notes:

  • Use your personal email (not institute email; GitHub recommends personal).
  • For Verification Use College Provided ID Card
  • You must add a billing address — this is required for verification (No Payment Will Be Required At All).
  • Approval typically takes 1–2 days.
  • Without the GitHub Edu Pack, you cannot activate Azure Student later.

Steps:

  1. Go to https://education.github.com/pack
  2. Click Get Student Benefits
  3. Log in with your GitHub account
  4. Provide:
    • Personal email
    • Valid student proof (ID or college portal screenshot)
    • Billing address
  5. Wait for verification (1–2 days)

2. Activate Azure Student Subscription

Once GitHub Education is approved:

  1. Go to https://azure.microsoft.com/free/students
  2. Log in using the same GitHub account
  3. Enable Azure Credits
  4. Verify no credit card is needed

This will give you:

  • Azure Storage
  • Azure Functions
  • Azure Compute
  • Other services needed later in the SNAP-MAP backend

📤 PR Submission

Follow the template as mentioned in previous Issue #1 :

  • Save the Image of screenshot of successful upload of the Documents Shown on the Github Edu Dashboard in
    GithubEdu/<githubId>.png

  • Attach screenshot of successful upload of the Documents Shown on the Github Edu Dashboard (Verification will take time and that is Alright) in PR Description.
